Possible Swine Flu in the Canary Islands – 54 cases confirmed throughout Spain
The Ministry of Health has confirmed 54 cases of the Swine Flu virus throughout Spain – a rise of 10 since yesterday. A further 60 people are being tested and are under observation for the contagion.
Six of the new confirmed cases have occurred in Valencia and four in Andalusia, according to data reported by the Autonomous Communities to the Ministry of Health today.
Including these new cases, Andalusia currently has the highest number of confirmed infections, with 15, followed by Catalonia (14), Valencia (13), Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid (4 each), and Aragon, Galicia, Murcia and Basque Country, all with one.
Hospitals in Andalusia are currently testing 21 people, in Valencia there are 17 being tested whilst Catalonia has 13, Castile-La Mancha, Extremadura and Madrid have two, and Ceuta, the Canary Islands and Castilla y Leon are testing one for the infection.
Of all the people who have tested positive so far, only 11 remain hospitalized, said the Ministry of Health. They stressed that all cases have had mild clinical symptoms and people are responding favorably to treatment. All those infected were travelers who had recently been to Mexico.
Spain is currently the worst infected country in Europe. There are now over 900 confirmed cases worldwide and there have been 22 deaths from the infection in Mexico.
